About The Artist
Katherine O'Truk is an artist and art educator living and working in Chicago, IL. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Education from Lake Forest College in 2013 and a Masters of Arts in Art Education from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2020.
About The Art | Artist Statement
When it comes down to it, every piece of art I make deals with the feeling of a moment. I am interested in how we view moments and how we preserve and celebrate those that are special to us.
I am an artist, art educator, and forever art student in Chicago. I am interested in exploring how a stroke of paint, a mark made with intention, or a smear of translucent color can impact a canvas; how those layers of media impact what came before and what will will come after. I often create abstract layers of circular forms and also create portraiture that pays tribute to the strength and beauty of female figures in my life and the moments I share with them. For me, the creation process is an examination of how layers of paint and juxtaposition of figures can convey the idea of a preserved, special moment in time.
