Women at Rest

This collection of paintings offer a reflection the feelings of warmth and joy that best moments of rest can bring. These works, all based on photos of my friends and family, are all about rest, connection, and renewal. In order to communicate the idea of a moment of pause, the women in these paintings are shown seated. Sometimes the figures are represented in a pair or group, finding peace in a shared moment together. Other times, figures are shown alone, finding renewal within themselves. These compositions are an examination of how layers of paint and fields of color can be paired with representational forms of the figure to convey the essence of a subject and setting. I hope that the suggestion of place, and abstract representation of a moment, makes the paintings relatable to the viewer, inspiring them to feel rest and renewal in their own lives.
